Unsound
Unsound

Unsound was established in 2003 in Krakow as a festival of progressive music. In the beginning an underground event, in recent years has taken up greater swing, receiving common acknowledgement.

The Unsound Festival takes place at the end of October each year in Krakow, in the spring of 2011, the second edition of Unsound Festival New York will take place – an event which focuses New York producers, curators and cultural institutions.

In cooperation with local partners, smaller events also took place in Prague, Warsaw, Bratislava, Kiev and Minsk. The creators of the Unsound festival are interested in the idea of cooperation over boundaries, and developing the term “festival” as a tool enabling to commission and develop new music and artistic projects. An equally important task is promoting music of artists from Poland, and more globally – artists working in the east of Berlin.

The roots of the Unsound festival, however, reach much farther – to the provincial Australian town Wagga Wagga. It was there, where a long, long time ago, the first event under the aegis of Unsound took place. Although today’s Unsound is organised by a different group of people on the other hemisphere, and the event itself has its own trajectory and profile, the name of the festival from Wagga Wagga has survived.
