An exhibition at the Wyspiański Pavilion
At the Wyspiański Pavilion, an exhibition of the photos documenting the creation of the stained glass windows for the Pavilion in the years 2005–2007 is now on display.

The stained glass windows were made by Piotr Ostrowski, based on Stanisław Wyspiański’s designs, in artistic cooperation with Andrzej Wajda.

Since the 1980s, Andrzej Wajda has been concerned with bringing to life these stained glass windows which never went beyond their cartoon versions. However, after several failed attempts at creating them he abandoned that idea. Piotr Ostrowski contacted him in 2000, proposing to make a sample piece of one of the stained glass windows, namely Casimir the Great. After months of attempts the fragment of the stained glass window with the King was ready and Master Wajda again came to believe that the project was viable. He made efforts aimed at the construction of the Pavilion in All Saints’ Square. It was to constitute an allegorical “frame for Wyspiański’s stained glass windows”.

In 2007, both the Pavilion and the stained glass windows were ready and opened to the public. It now houses Krakow’s Cultural and Tourist Information Centre.

Since today, for two months, on will have the opportunity to see the pictures illustrating “how it happened” and read the story written by Andrzej Wajda at the Pavilion.
